Two New Shows at the Bryan Gallery

“Through the Peep Hole” 11X14 acrylic on canvas

Two new shows are opening at the Bryan Gallery in Jeffersonville, VT, and I’m honored to have a painting juried into each show. “Through the Peep Hole” features a mountain vista as viewed between the crack of two shadowed boulders and is part of the “Lost & Found: New England’s Landscape” show. This show opens July 9th and is on display through August 24th. The deep blue and purple shadows in this composition sharply offset the sunlit rocks and slopes in the distance, inviting you to imagine yourself peeking out through this slot onto a classic Vermont landscape.

“East Shore - Gloucester”, 11 X 14 acrylic on canvas

“East Shore - Gloucester” is part of the “Eastern Edges” show that showcases the New England coastline (also on display through August 24th). This particular composition is a nod to my childhood summers visiting my grandparent’s home in Gloucester, Massachusetts. Not far from where they lived on Rocky Neck is a stretch of rugged coastline referred to as Bass Rocks, and we’d often visit it to watch the surf and wander in the tide pools. I have a vivid memory of visiting Bass Rocks during syzygy - a time when the earth, moon, and sun are in alignment and the resulting tides are extreme. The surf was spectacular, and although we were perched on a seemingly safe rock at the edge of the road, we still managed to get drenched by a rogue wave. The day depicted in this scene was quite the opposite - low tide and low surf - but the rich tones of the seaweed covered rocks are inviting, nonetheless.

Both of these paintings are available directly through the Bryan Gallery, priced at $300 each. Inquiries can be directed to the gallery at https://www.bryangallery.org/
