This painting is part of my "River Processes" series and draws on my background as a professional fluvial geomorphologist and river ecologist. It is based on the fluvial geomorphic concept of "incision"; as rivers erode/downcut into their valleys (incision) they undergo a channel evolution process that results in the creation of new floodplain features over time.
