12 X 24 acrylic painting on deep gallery wrapped canvas - painted continuously around the edges
Two red spotted newts overwintered in my little garden pond, and in the spring they laid two large egg masses. It was mind boggling that two diminutive creatures could create such a large amount of biomass - literally hundreds of eggs - in a short amount of time. As I watched the tadpoles develop, I wondered how many would survive to crawl out of the pond as tiny red efts. This started my pondering of this amazing creature, and while on a walk at a nearby pond, I captured underwater footage of these newts mating and meandering in the submerged grasses at the water edge. All of these experiences lead me to the creation of this painting and a finer appreciation of these aquatic salamanders.
Ships unframed with a natural wood floater frame in a generously padded box. If you are local to Vermont you may also opt for “pickup” upon checkout at the Emile Gruppe Gallery in Jericho, VT.
